ENJOYING THE
OUTDOORS AND ENTERTAINING
Helen has been retired for 11 years, which means she has the opportunity to spend plenty of time enjoying her beautiful 25 acre property in Stoney Creek. The highlight of the property is her warm and welcoming home, built in 1965 and expanded over the years. Most recently, all of the work on her house and its environs has been done by Westcliff Renovations & Construction, and she plans to keep doing more. In addition to keeping her spry, the renovations are increasing her enjoyment of her residence, and are also valuable investments.
With such a large property, Helen and her friends and family love to enjoy the outdoors. She wanted to create a space that would allow her to relax and host guests through as much of the year as possible. After discussing this desire with the Westcliff team, they agreed on the idea of building a one of a kind covered porch and fenced sitting area as a highlight of the backyard and the perfect setting for a morning cup of coffee.
SETTING
THE STAGE
To set the stage, Westcliff started from the bottom and built a new concrete platform and expanded the walkways around the house for ease of access. While doing this, they undertook a repair job to fix cracked concrete that was allowing water to leak into the basement. With the base for the project established, the Westcliff team took a step back to explore Helen’s vision for the space. Her unique tastes meant that she was keen to see her style and personality reflected in the project. The Westcliff team took their time to show her an extensive amount of samples, and take her on visits to showrooms to see and feel the elements and materials that were available.
The roof was built creating a naturally looking flow between the interior and exterior spaces. The wood is juxtaposed with concrete footings surrounded by natural stone columns which provides a harmonious and complementary contrast of textures. A custom cedar fence was added to act as a privacy screen, and also to provide some shelter from prevailing winds during shoulder seasons. To finish off the project, the Westcliff team turned their eyes towards the landscaping and laid fresh sod, shaped the surrounding garden beds, and planted perennial flowers and plants to ensure the space blooms to life every year.
Bringing people somewhere as personal as your home is an intimate experience. Helen shares that she feels lucky to have met Dan and the Westcliff team, and to have someone she can call to take care of all of the holistic needs on her property in a coordinated, professional, and thoughtful manner. As she looks out across her acreage, a warm smile shows that she is looking forward to many more years of relaxing and entertaining under her charming covered porch.
