OPEN CONCEPT HOME MAKEOVER
MAKING THEIR FIRST HOME THEIR OWN
Adeel and Fatima are an energetic couple with two beautiful young children. After getting married, they decided to hold off on purchasing their first home, and instead lived with Adeel’s parents, who had a large house and wanted to help with raising their grandchildren. When Rashid and Sarah turned 8 and 6, respectively, Adeel and Fatima decided it was time for the family to have its own space.
After watching the market for several months, a property was listed in one of their favourite neighbourhoods in Hamilton, with large lots, mature trees, and friendly neighbours. The house was being sold as part of an estate sale, had not been lived in for several years, and was extremely dated. While this meant that they were able to purchase it at an attractive price, it also meant that it was not the dream home they had been saving for. Luckily, they had been introduced to the Westcliff team by a friend and were excited by the opportunity to create the perfect home for their family.

FULLY REIMAGINED
Renovating the house to meet the needs of the family was no simple task. As a one floor bungalow, Adeel and Fatima wanted to open up the house and make use of all available space. To achieve this, the Westcliff team carefully removed a number of walls on the main floor, and added LVL load bearing beams for added support. They completely restructured the staircase connecting the basement and the main floor to establish a natural flow and sense of connectedness between the levels, allowing the kids to play downstairs while the adults keep an ear out from the main floor.
Outside of the bedrooms, they decided to use the remaining space on the main floor to create an open concept living and dining experience, with a great room hosting the kitchen, dining, and entertaining areas. The complete overhaul of this space included reconfiguring the layout of the kitchen and completing a comprehensive upgrade of the electrical wiring and plumbing systems. The Westcliff team also specified and installed attractive lighting, including beautiful pendants, under cabinet lighting, and recessed pot lights.

In additional to structural and functional upgrades, the house was brought to life through a number of aesthetic improvements such as eye catching wainscotting featured walls, the addition of pocket doors, brand new windows, new doors, new cabinets, countertops, and a tiled backsplash in the kitchen, and perfectly matched tiles throughout the main floor. These features are complemented by an appealing set of colours, finishings, décor and furnishings, all of which lend a modern, welcoming, and airy feeling to a once depressing space.
